The media bombards all of us with new findings in the field of psychology: Everything about new findings for causes of psychogical disorders to peer pressure, to mental disorders & violence. However, how does one know if these new findings are valid or just sensationalism?

Your assignment is to find a piece of new psychological reporting in the media (newspaper article, tv program/show, magazine article, etc…) and discuss it.

Try and find evidence that looks at the many sides of the topic (i.e. Find research that lend support to the finding in question/Find research that refute to the finding in question) and arrive at a conclusion based on the weight of the evidence.

2. One of the best sources for your research is the Seneca library catalogue
(http://library.senecacollege.ca/). Here you can find books and journals which will aid you in your
research.
3. Make Sure you use google scholar (http://scholar.google.ca/) or other types of peer reviewed
research databases such as science direct, ncbi (http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/) The APA
(http://www.apa.org/pubs/databases/index.aspx) for your research.
4. Ensure that you review the rubric on how you will be marked and format your essay
according to the correct guidelines.
5. Ensure that you follow APA style as this is used for Psychology. Refer to

6. Plagiarizing: All borrowed ideas and quotations should be correctly cited in the body of your text,
followed by a References page listing the details of your sources, using APA format.
7. There is a difference between spoken and written English. You are not done writing your
essay until you’ve polished your language; correcting grammar, spelling, sentence structure,
making sentences flow, and editing. Proof read until it reads how you want it to sound. Writing an
essay can be tedious; however a well-written paper can be a joy for the reader.
8. Word count – 1500-2000 words, double-spaced.

Follow the due dates in the Course Schedule & remember: Extensions CANNOT be granted

Late assignment will be penalized as such: 5% per day from the overall grade
of the essay (i.e. 1 day late = essay will be marked out of 95%, 2 days late =
90%…) – Also, failure to submit an electronic copy will result in a penalty of
10% of essay’s grade.
