Option #1: In consideration of what is currently going on in our world, you may choose to focus your paper on the following topic:

How have recent events (COVID-19 Pandemic, the economy, and ongoing violence against People of Color) affected you and those you know, and what will you do about it? Please choose a topic (for example: ongoing violence against People of Color) and discuss the following:

How does this topic affect you and those you know?
What are you learning about yourself and what will you do to take action?
Apply psychological concepts to your discussion to help you understand and take wise action (ie. group think, stereotypes, discrimination, memory and false eyewitness testimony, stress and health, etc…)
Find 2 Empirical research articles and incorporate them into your paper using APA formatting for the in-text citations (please see instructions below about how to locate an Empirical article and how to format your references and reference page using APA format).
Your paper must be 5-7 pages long, typed, double-spaced, standard margins, Times New Roman 12-point font.

Instructions about how to write a reference page and in-text references using APA formatting:

1. Reference Page: In addition to the 5-7 pages, also include a reference list that includes at least 2 references. This is a separate page at the end of your paper titled: “References”. Use the American Psychological Association (APA) 6th Edition Formatting (Links to an external site.) ( (Links to an external site.)). This previous link includes examples and directions about how to write APA references.
You must format your reference page using APA formatting for the Empirical Article references. This is the format for citing a research article found online:

Author, A. A., & Author, B. B. (Date of publication). Title of article. Title of Journal, volume number(issue number), page range.

Here is an example:
Brownlie, D. A. (2007). Toward effective poster presentations: An annotated bibliography. European Journal of Marketing, 41(2), 1245- 1283.

This is where I found the directions and explanation about how to do an online Journal reference (look under “Article from an online periodical with DOI assigned): (Links to an external site.)

Don’t worry about including the DOI at the end unless you want to do that. Be careful to write the citation exactly as it appears in the examples above (some words are italicized and also note that it is single spaced for one reference, indenting the second line, and you separate the second reference by a space). Check the website I listed for more details.

2. In-text citations: Also reference the article in your writing by using parentheses at the end of the sentence with the last name of the author and the year the article was published. Here is how to write an in-text citation using the example from above: (Brownlie, 2007).

(You can look at the articles themselves to see how the authors summarize points from other research and how they include the references throughout the text and at the end on the Reference page. The formatting might be different since we are using the most updated formatting).
